Freestyle snowboards include a wide range of snowboards that come in different shapes, flexes, and can be used in variety of disciplines. Freestyle snowboards include snowboards used for half pipes, street rails, kickers and just buttering around. There are many snowboards that can be used for each of these disciplines. It is up to the snowboarder to choose the type of snowboard he or she needs for what they like to ride.
There are some general rules of thumb you can go by though. Half pipe snowboards usually have a stiff overall flex to enable snowboarders to hold an edge when they are traveling at high speeds through the transitions of an icy half pipe. While snowboarders who like to hit rails and butter around usually like a snowboard with a soft overall flex because it is more forgiving and give you the ability to tweak tricks by flexing the snowboard. Riders who are hitting kickers usually like a medium to stiff flexing snowboard so the board will not wash out if they land their jump off balanced.
One thing most freestyle snowboards have in common is the fact that they are made to ride forward or backwards. The inserts for the bindings are usually centered on the snowboard so the rider can be centered. When the rider is centered on the snowboard it is more natural to ride in either direction. Just because a snowboard has centered inserts doesn’t mean that the nose and tail are exactly the same. In most cases the snowboard still has a directional flex and side cut because most people tend to ride one direction more often than the other.
There are some true twin tips out there, but you need to do your research because twin doesn’t mean the same as true twin. A true twin snowboard has the same flex, side cut, and shape on both the nose and tail making it a true twin. The category freestyle snowboards includes a variety of snowboards and it is up to the rider to decide the freestyle snowboard that suits them best. The Click Worldwide offers freestyle snowboards from Burton Snowboards, Capita Snowboards, Forum Snowboards, GNU Snowboards, Lib Tech Snowboards, Never Summer Snowboards, Option Snowboards, Rome Snowboards, and Technine Snowboards which all make these different disciplines of freestyle snowboards
